A holiday refreshes employees and increases productivity and efficiency. The initiative to allow the employee to spend time with family, significant others, and close friends on vacation can help decrease stress, minimize burnout, and improve work-life balance. The main reason for lower employee burnout and ill-health has a connection to insufficient days of rest.

Holidays, however, are not only days of rest, but employees can utilize their holidays to unwind by going on short vacations. For instance, if there is a holiday on a Friday for a firm with a 5-day working week, the employees can club the same with their Saturday and Sunday holiday, plan a 3-day trip with their family, and report back for work on Monday refreshed.

But the above is possible only if the employees are aware of their holidays much in advance to make their travel arrangements. Most people's holiday dates coincide, so a last-minute travel plan might prove expensive.

HR, therefore, takes upon itself the task of preparing an annual holiday calendar right at the start of the year. The task becomes a priority for those organizations that work from multiple locations and shifts to allot the work appropriately. Also, some organizations request employees to work on holidays and pay them incentives like a promise of a holiday on another day or a pay increase. Organizations in Madhya Pradesh use form O notice of holiday to employees to intimate their employees. The employees can use a personal calendar and an updated holiday list for the year to help them plan.
