Religious, Local, and Regional Telangana Holidays and Festivals Celebrated in Telangana 2022

1. About Varalakshmi Vratham 2022

Varalakshmi Vratham 2022 is a prevailing festival celebrated with fervor and zeal in parts of Telangana, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Maharashtra. The festival is observed at Shukla Paksha in Shraavana (July-August) on Friday.

"Vara" means the blessing given to worshipers by Lakshmi and “Vratham” means Fasting. Goddess Lakshmi is the goddess of wealth, abundance, fertility, power, and luck in Hindu mythology.

Varalakshmi Vratham 2022 will be celebrated on August 12, as a homage to the goddess Lakshmi. many married women fast on this day and seek blessings for their families and husbands. A married woman prays to the goddess for a long and prosperous life for her husband. Goddess Lakshmi is believed to give fasting women longevity, health, and offspring.

How is Varalakshmi Vratham 2022 celebrated?

Married women don’t eat anything and fast from morning to evening on Thursday and arrange for Pooja. On Friday, the married women get up early in the morning and take a head bath just before sunrise. They clean and decorate their houses with rangoli and Kalasha, which are coated with sandalwood paste and are packed with a variety of different items from region to region. The women put raw rice, coins, turmeric, and leaves in a pot and draw the symbol of the "swastika".

Finally, kalasha is adorned with mango leaves and turmeric-coated coconut is used to cover it. Puja begins by worshiping Lord Ganesha, chanting Shlokas, playing Arti, and offering sweets to God. The women tie a yellow thread to their hands and exchange gifts. Boiled legumes, Pongal, and candies made from brown sugar are distributed. The women complete the ritual on Saturday and dismantle the Kalasha cloak after bathing. In Telangana, observing Varalakshmi Vratham 2022 is believed to bring solace, abundance, a long life for husbands, and economic blessings.
